Who we are
A welcoming, warm and inspiring space, with friendly, and incredibly talented staff, who are expert crafters (embroiders, knitters, crocheters, quilters, sewing, lace makers, spinners etc).
Part of Waikane since ‘87
Fibre Flair has been part of the Waikanae and broader Kapit Coast community since 1987, providing materials, tools, inspiration, and skills to creators and crafters locally, nationally, and internationally.
The shop is a welcoming and warm space, with friendly, and incredibly talented staff, who are expert crafters (embroiders, knitters, crocheters, quilters, sewing, lace makers, spinners etc).
Located in Waikanae on the beautiful Kapiti Coast, Fibre flair is on the main road directly across from the train station. From Wellington, it is a quick drive via transmission gully, or one hour train trip.
Fibre Flair situated in the midst of the Waikanae town hub, which contains a fabulous range of cafes, shops, and the marvelous Mahara gallery. Perfect for a days outing!
Fibre flair provides all the necessities and inspiration for crafters and creatives.
A change of ownership
Bernie took over Fibre Flair in August 2023. She has been knitting, crocheting, and sewing since she was 8 and learnt to tatt lace when she was 10. With a passion for maintaining and moving forward heritage crafting skills, she has always dreamt of having a crafting and sewing ‘café’. A place where you can drop in and learn, ‘try-before-you-buy’, and get support and advice.
Her aim is to provide accessible foundation skills to those starting on their crafting, design, and textile journey. With a range of tools, classes, inspiring projects, and colorful fibres and fabrics to suit everyone!
“Enjoy the ever changing window displays and variety of fabrics instore. Very tempting to buy all you see. Helpful and patient staff when I require extra help with fabrics.”
